I stole this tune from Mel Bay's Fiddle Sessions. You may wonder what I was doing looking through back issues of a fiddle site, but that's the point. There is a lot of great music out there just waiting for us mandolin pickers KishNiev#1 comes from Stacy Phillip's Klezmer book. The October 2003 issue of Fiddle Sessions featured this tune and I re-wrote it with mandolin tab. The unusual nature of the melody creates many fingering questions. I find myself playing some of the time in "half position" or "1st finger/1st fret." Try different fingerings until you find one that works for you. You can hear the tune played on clarinet here:
