This melody had been in my head for quite some time. First, I think I had a dream about it and forgot it. Then, it would come back again while driving on the road.
I usually turn off the car stereo after hours of driving with it on and I just drive while admiring the landscapes and the beautiful nature and I start humming different melodies in my head and imagine different positions on the fingerboard to try to remember them and then be able to play them when I get to my destination.
Well, it took a long time before I figured and remembered this one out. It works great on the mandolin playing double stops and tremolos in the key of "A". It is a slow piece and an easy melody to play, and the most important ingredient to make it sound nice is the drama effect with a smooth tremolo.
I used to play this melody by myself and that is why I named it "Lonesome mandolin", but it also has that powerful lonesome vibe and now we usually play it at the end of our shows. I wanted it to be simple but powerful and it finally came to me and I recorded it on my latest CD with my good friend Joe Reyes, entitled "Lara & Reyes" (2006 Fusion Acustica Music) available at www.laraandreyes.com
Enjoy!
