Looking back at the August issue, you can read that I promised you a reel in this installment. However, instead I'm giving you another jig that sounds especially nice when played after "The Geese in the Bog". In fact, these two jigs are played consecutively on the cd mentioned last time by Arcady, titled Many Happy Returns. Even better, that album contains about nine sets of traditional tunes played most excellently. A good recommendation for beginners is to listen carefully to the pulse and rhythm of the traditional music they're interested in learning. This version of "The Pipe on the Hob", transcribed from the Arcady recording, is fairly straightforward but it may push the beginners somewhat toward the intermediate level. Stick with it, listen to the mp3's and if you have any comments or questions, please email me at michael.gregory@und.nodak.edu.
