Sally Johnson
by Nate Lee
Sally Johnson is a Texas Style Old Time Fiddle tune that I have arranged very much in the style of Terry Morris. This tune is a breakdown and is played at a quick swing tempo. It is usually accompanied by Texas "sock" style chords, however that is the subject of another article. I've included the bare minimum of chords that should be played behind it, and encourage you to check out Joe Carr's various published articles on the subject.
This arrangement is pinkie intensive and standard pick directions rules apply.
Parts 1, 1B, 2 and 3 are played entirely in First Position. Use your pinkie!
Parts 4, 5A and 5B are played in Third Position (index finger on the 5th fret, middle finger on the 7th fret, ring finger on the 8th and 9th frets, and Pinkie on the 10th fret)
Part 6 is played in First Position. Note the repeated upstrokes in the first two beats of measures 61 and 62.
Parts 3B, and 1C are played in First Position.
